The Best Free Browser MMORPGs – 2017

What’s good. It’s Fevir. Today we’re doing something a bit different.. 1 part sell out.. 1 part informative.. 1 giant part- nostalgia trip.. when it really
shouldn’t be one.. but when we look at some of the big players in the browser gaming space..
for as much garbage is shoveled into the market there have been some mainstays that have stood
the test of time in a real way. We’re going to look over the best options
out there when it comes to browser based MMORPGs. Interestingly enough.. I wasn’t sitting their wracking my brain about
a list video I could do.. instead I had decided to check in on a game.. which I guess I should
mention.. and start the video off with.. that game is.. Tibia. This is a game that is damn near 2 decades
old- has a charming 2D sprite aesthetic.. but is probably best known for it’s steep
isometric, fixed view.. and was an MMORPG from times when hardcore penalties for death,
loose rules and nary a carrot on a stick was standard. It is now playable on just the browser…
but to jump back a minute- Tibia was in general gaming news a while back because someone was
going to walk through the Banuta Gate of Expertise- a door that required level 999 and was put
in the game with no intention that anyone would ever reach that level.. but.. people
will surprise you over the close to 20 years the game has been around.. and with 20 years
comes huge amounts of content, community building.. and I was incredibly surprised to see the
game still being actively updated and having a thriving community.. which made me look
elsewhere for Browser MMORPGs because.. man.. on PC we can barely hold on to an MMORPG for
a couple years let alone decades. Next game on the list.. is Realm of the Mad
God. This game barely scrapes by my very loose
definition of an MMORPG.. and only fits the bill because you have to be loose when looking
at browser games as usually worlds are replaced with interface and windows. Realm of the Mad God has a special place in
my heart because I remember it popping up on reddit close to it’s release around 2011~ish.. I think even at the time the staff wasn’t
working on the game full time even.. Realm of the Mad God is probably best described
as a bullet hell shooter / multiplayer game.. that also has ties to classes and levels and
items and inventory.. more traditional RPG elements.. this game recieved a lot of the
hivemind’s love and attention and so as it has grown.. it’s been easy to follow even
if I don’t play it. I’ve watched this game maintain, grow and
find an audience and holds an 82 Metacritic score.. as a browser game. Which is incredible.. and about once a year
I open it up and play an hour and am always impressed with what’s changed. This next title.. oh man.. League of Angels.. 1 and 2. Ok.. so this is somewhat a weird pick but
I wanted to talk abit about it.. as this is one of those games that you’ve probably heard
of.. even if you can’t recall. So the boring details is that League of Angels
is one of those RPGs more focused with stats, items and creating a team of different heroes
to take on monsters.. in a very sterile.. room to room feel.. and it’s tied together
with this multiplayer- esque lobby. I remember getting Candy Crush and Farmville
notifications from girls on facebook.. and poker and League of Angels notifications from
guys.. but what makes this game crazy.. is just how popular the first one was. Like.. it was batshit popular.. it really
was this weird sleeper title in NA I feel. Kind of like how a lot of people haven’t heard
of Dungeon Fighter or Granblue.. and those are some of the most popular games in the
world. BUT- what makes this weird- is you’ve probably
seen League of Angels before because they are one of the big titles that would take
say.. a World of Warcraft image.. or Elder Scrolls Quote or League of Legends asset to
advertise itself. It also would spend incredible amounts of
money to make these trailers.. that don’t represent the game.. like.. at all. The popularity of a game like this.. in today’s
market.. really is brute force customer acquisition through marketing. I don’t suggest this game, it’s just not that
good. There is just no use denying the popularity
it bought. The title we have next.. has always impressed
me with what a browser game could be. Drakensang Online. This came out.. fuck.. probably in 2010 as
well. It was close to Realm of the Mad God.. and
just has graphics that are better than some client based games. The game has a very aRPG look and feel and
playstyle with MMO elements thrown on top.. and I think it reminds me of a harsher and
less whimsical Torchlight.. which is a very good thing.. with a pretty great pvp system. Drakensang is the browser game that doesn’t
feel like a browser game. So let’s take a second now and not dig up
my childhood.. but shit on it.. not with any one game.. but the trend of taking something
that was really special.. Ragnarok Online.. and spinning it and twisting
it into many, many unsuccessful states of different games. There are a lot of titles with Ragnarok attached
to it.. none of which really come close to the original. In the realm of browser based.. there are
many different places.. much like the private servers the original game tends to be played
on.. where you can play RO on browser.. however- playerbases are small.. and then there is
Ragnarok Joury I believe it’s called. A browser
based gamed.. a Ragnarok reskin of this type of browser game that is incredibly popular
overseas.. which is a glorified afk activity. It has autoplay threaded throughout the entire
game.. it accepts quests, does them, turns them in.. you can take control.. you are also
in charge of item equipped and builds and kind of piloting the bot.. but oh.. how the
mighty have fallen. That said.. it ends up feeling very much like
a more complex.. clicker heroes style game. Only interested because RO was rad to me. This next title on the list.. you may laugh
at me. I first even paid attention to it when a guy
that I follow in the MMORPG content creator sphere.. Scionstorm, started streaming it… Naruto Online- now this guy plays just as
many MMORPGs as me.. yet he’s playing this.. he’s got the levels, the progress.. he’s sunk
some real time into the game. It plays out very similar to League of Angels
where you are dealing with creating a team full of ninjas of your choosing- equipping
them with the right items and using tactical turn based strategy to take on different fights
while traveling a world with your avatar.. it even has that dumb looking run with your
arms flapping behind you.. but instead of trying to mislead people with marketing.. Naruto as an UP sells itself.. to its audience. People go crazy for this ninjitsu genjitsu
stuff- I personally play a similarly styled mobile game.. themed to Final Fantasy.. so
I can really see the appeal of a game like this.. good turn based combat is hard to find
especially at a decent quality level- this was released last year and as much as I shudder
to say it- is a good option for a browser based game. And last on the list.. you can’t talk about
Browser Based MMORPGs without talking about Runescape. I don’t think this game needs much discussion. It’s one of the largest and most actively
played MMORPGs out right now.. including true form console or PC MMORPGs- it’s been around
forever.. has multiple versions and has a fanatic fan base. In a lot of ways.. Runescape represents a very pure MMORPG vision..
with enough quirks and differences to differentiate itself from competititors.. but also has been
around and accessible for such a long time.. to people and kids who couldn’t spend money
or who didn’t have powerful computers.. And this ties into Runescape.. but really
to most of the titles here and also many of the other MMORPG and RPG titles that exist
on the browser.. because it’s crazy to see how many titles have not only just stayed
a valid option.. but have experienced ongoing growth. In a way it really highlights the sunken-time
fallacy- where obviously.. people have sunk so much time into these game in the years
and years and years they’ve been around that it drives them to stick around even with ‘objectively’
better games out there to choose from. The cumaltive effort, social ties and memories
make the game more appealing to keep playing and make new games less appealing to start
over in. And the way these browser games get you..
is the appeal of the browser game.. low spec requirements, playable at school, usually
free, simple and accessible gameplay that generally appeals to younger players.. so
kids..this allows for constant discovery of the game from new blood.. but the MMORPG-
sinks it’s claws into you. Offering you the feeling of accomplishment..
gives the illusion that your time spent as value outside of your entertainment.. and
gives you a place that acts as a familiar escape.

  1. Hi everyone, with this post I would like to bring to your attention a very small browsergame, developed by a single person: Lands of Lords

    What is Lands of Lords?

It is a completely free Browsergame, also available in our language (Yes yes) of Strategic / Management / GDR.
Our role will be to impersonate a noble / noblewoman in a medieval universe, where we will have the opportunity to create and manage his own feud and to grow it from a small village of peasant stewards, magnificent imperial capitals, with magnificent gardens and palaces.
The possibilities of the game are almost infinite, limited only by the fancy of the player.
The game has a somewhat sluggish learning curve, the management side goes very far in the details, but the great community helps newcomers so that if one is puzzled, he may turn to someone more experienced.
The fundamental part of the game will be the GDR, in fact we will have to relate with other players as medieval nobles, thereby cultivating friendships, enmities, fakes and more.
Another winning card in the game is the fact that you do not have to be 24h / 24h to see your progress gone, in fact the game is structured to encourage players to make vassalation deals with their enemies, not to destroy them completely, What's impossible for game mechanics.

If you are looking for a strategic roleplay and are middle-aged lovers, and have always dreamed of becoming king or emperors, get ahead!

I leave you the Link of the game, I want to point out that this article is disinterested, but moved by a sincere love for this game, so I will not put the usual promotional link where I get some benefits to portarvici, I hope you can try it and fall in love As I did.

  3. I got a ps3, ps4, racing games, open world games, jrpg, but guess what, i still play runescape over those…

  4. Nidia – Its a great 2017 3d mmorpg that can be played on the browser.its really fun and after and easy leveling house or two its starts to get really difficult and if u like browser mmorpgs you should really check it out

  5. God the amount of time I put in runescape as a kid and sometimes now and I'm 25…. just waiting for the next console game

  6. AQW was my reason for waking up in the morning, every day ( & running a bot at night ) it reached a point that my PC would stay ON for days. Though I quit it as I realized how toxic their membership system was when I evolved into a master race.

  7. I thought that drakensang was a download-needed game. or can it be played both through download and web browser?

  8. I sometimes opt to play a browser-game over a popular title because then I don't have to download 30gbs of data just to have fun for a couple of days.

  9. good browser game

  10. Frog used to play Wartune, back when it was new-ish.

Loved that game… well, not so much the game, but, the game + friends in Teamspeak =D working together, sharing ideas and knowledge, working together in multiplayer dungeons, participating in events… it was pretty hopping sweet =)

Unfortunately the game changed a lot over time, became more and more Whale focused, and eventually it just wasnt' the game I'd fallen in love with anymore 😛

FORTUNATELY =D right about then, Nova Genesis came out!!! It was amazing! Wartune 2.0!! Everything good about WT made better, everything bad about WT FIXED =D plus a hop-ton of new goodies and features that really took the game where it had always had the potential to go!! ;D (note, many NG features later appeared in WT ;P)

… unfortunately… within aproximately 6 months of release… NG was basically dead. Killed by the greedy people who clearly had not built the game, but had been tasked with managing / monetizing it for as much as they could. It was so sad to see such an amazing game deteriorate and fall apart every patch, great features we loved REMOVED FROM THE GAME as they could not be coded with the newest whale content so were scrapped.

I still have love for the Wartune-type browser games, but I got burned out looking for another good one. With dozens to hundreds out there, and so many reviewers just shunning the genre completely, I have my doubts that I'll ever find another good one, if they even exist anymore 😛

If anybody has found a game like Wartune that they consider to be great (what would you call that kind of game exactly?) by all means please send frog a ribbit 😉

But for now, frog is loving Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Yugioh Duel Links ;D

    waves froggy-foot!!

  11. You have good perspective over all, I started Dragensang Online since I am in Libya and the internet here is slow so reasonable for browser games and you suggested good ones. Subscribed & thank you.

  12. illyraid becajuse like the way it has a very long and complex research and level system and their player that are so nice and i have had to restart but that does not bother because it feel just like the first

  13. Chrono Tales was the best but shutdown due to hackers and cheaters.
Free to play. Players with money can win but players who farm well can own Pay-to-win players

  14. The only one that is attracting me over others is realm of the mad because it is unique:roguelite/mmo/shouter aspect and it's fun because it doesnt take itself seriously but for the others… well wow/ guild wars 2/tera/black desert online/albion for example are games that do the same but better i think they should try to be creative/ fun and accessible like R.o.t.mad god instead of trying to be this mmorpg that has already been seen that require to much effort and time when on the other side you know you could be playing a wayyyy better game i think that's why they arent popular
But for exemple runescape coming to mobile is a great way to be fun and accesible

  15. I play rotmg for 4-5 years it ylused to look sooooo bad but it so mutch better seeing my account go up and up really i cant leave it
